Carrib-FOSS Project
A recent initiative undertaken by various individuals and groups in the North American region to bring Open Standards Technologies via Free/Open Source Software to Countries/Islands in the Caribbean area.
The Caribbean Basin Countries and Islands are ideally located to benefit from the exposure of great innovation and creativity in Technology emanating from the United States and Canada nearby, particularly with the synergies of spoken language, general type and level of education and complementary cultures of learning.
Such benefits however has not taken place, even with the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement which has diluted and ignored to some degree participation and involvement of the Caribbean countries.
The compelling advantage of very low costs to the adoption of FOSS technologies, especially through academia and for government administration initially, will help such initiatives as put forth by these national and International learning and governmental organizations.
